Iakob Gogebashvili Award for Children’s and Youth Literature

Iakob Gogebashvili Award for Children’s and Youth Literature has been awarded since 2017. The Award aims to facilitate the development of literature for children and youth; to promote writing for children; and to encourage publishers. A large part of the nominations is categorized according to age groups. It is significant to note that the award considers not only writers but also illustrators of children’s books. The prize for Children’s and Youth Literature is awarded in the following nominations:

  • Best Poetry Book (two awards)

For the Youngest Reader, ages 3-6; 

For Children, ages 7-12. 

  • Best Book of Fiction (three awards)

For the Youngest, ages 3-6;

For Children, ages 7-12;

For the Younth - 13 + .

  • Best Illustrated Book (Three Awards Shall be Issued)

For the Youngest, ages 3-6;

For Children, ages 7-12;

For the Younth - 13 + .

  • Best Children’s plays;
  • ·         Best Debut;
  • ·         Best Book for the Youth;
  • Best Project for the Youth Children;
  • For Contribution to Children’s Literature.

The Award is composed of the prize and financial component. The Prize for each nomination amounts to 2000 GEL, while Contribution to Children’s Literature Award equals 3000 GEL. Between 2017 and 2018, 20 awards and overall amount of 42 000 GEL monetary prize was granted to various winners.
