Georgian literary Program at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Organized by the Writers' House, with the financial support of the project "Tbilisi - World Book Capital 2021" and in cooperation with the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association, Georgia will present a literary program at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 20-24, 2021.

 

Due to Covid 19-related regulations and restrictions in the Federal Republic of Germany, Georgia will not be presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2021 with a national stand, however, it will offer an interesting literary program to German-speaking readers.

 

On October 21, Aka Morchiladze will present a new translation of his book "Of Old Hearts and Swords" to German readers as part of Frankfurt Book Fair Festival - Bookfest City, in Roomers Frankfurt. The moderator of the event will be Tilman Sprekelsen, a well-known German journalist and literary critic, a great supporter of Georgian literature, and the editor of the culture section of the influential German journal Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

 

On October 22, at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Aka Morchiladze and Canadian author Paul Siskvesis will meet in the Pavilion of Canada, the honorary guest country of 2021, the topic of the meeting will be "Preserving and Protecting Languages ​​and Culture - The Way We Were" Canadian-Georgian series).

 

 

On October 23, within the frames of Frankfurt Book Fair, the annual Literary Festival LiteraturBahnhof will host Lasha Bakradze in Frankfurt Book House - Haus des Buches, who will present the latest German translations of Georgian writers to German readers.

 

Aka Morchiladze will hold meetings in Switzerland and Germany within the frames of the literary tour. The tour will start on October 5 at the Zurich House of Literature, with the Interdisciplinary Festival of Georgian Culture "Bridge: Zurich - Tbilisi" and will continue with meetings with readers at the Munich House of Literature (October 15) and the Nuremberg Central Library (October 20).

 

It should be noted that eight books by Aka Morchiladze have been translated into German.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest book fair in the world, with thousands of publishers and authors participating each year. Georgia has traditionally participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair every year since 2007 with a national stand and a diverse literary program, various literary events are held with the participation of Georgian authors and publishers to promote the foreign language translations and to facilitate the translation process.
