Heinrich Böll Anniversary Literary Contest for the Youth

Related to the 100 years anniversary of great German poet and Nobel laureate Heinrich Böll, South Caucasus Regional Office of Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Writers’ House are announcing the literary contest for young people of age 15-25.

 

Contest is open for 11th and 12th grade schoolchildren and students.

 

Students have to enroll a translation of Heinrich Böll’s short story or of an extract ( his novel or larger scale story);

 

Schoolchildren have to choose and write any of the three proposed themes based on Heinrich Böll’s works:

 

1.       Man on the trace of war – based on Heinrich Böll’s novels The Clown and House without Guardians;

 

2.      Heinrich Böll – writer and citizen;

 

3.      My favorite piece of Heinrich Böll’s work.

 

Essays and translations need be sent to the email address info@writershouse.ge. The text should be typed in Microsoft word with Georgian Unicode (font – Sylfaen, size – 12).

 

The length of an essay should not exceed 6 pages; translation should be up to 20 pages.

 

Works will be accepted October 15th till November 20th (6 PM) 2017.

 

Essays and translations will be assessed by the jury, which will remain confidential till the awards ceremony.

 

Winners will be awarded with diplomas and vouchers for free books.

Contest awards:

 

First two awards (essay and translation) – 400 GEL voucher;

Second two awards (essay and translation) – 200 GEL voucher;

Encouraging award – 100 GEL voucher.

 

Awards ceremony will be held in the Writers’ House on December 21st - Heinrich Böll’s birthday.

 

Transportation of winner youngsters other regions of Georgia will be arranged by the organizers.
