Writers' House and Diogene publishing established a Vakhushti Kotetishvili Award, with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. The award will be annually awarded to poetry translators.
On 26nd of October Writers' House held a press conference; Aleqsandre Grigalashvili, the representative of the Ministry, Natalia Lomouri, the director of Writers' House and Tamar Lebanidze, the director of Diogene talked about the new award.
Tha Vakhushti Kotetishvili award will be given in two directions: translated poetry published as a book and translated poetry printed in literary periodical. Consequently the contest will review books/electronic books and publications in periodicals published in 2015. The sum of money to be awarded for book is Gel 1800, for publication - Gel 700.
First edition of the text in Georgian language must be presented for the award. Only the publisher can apply for the competition, each publisher may present up to 5 books, each periodical/newspaper publisher - up to 10 publications.
Deadline for submissions is November 15.
Writers' House and Diogene publishing will present the shortlist of finalists in mid December.
The winner will be revealed by the 5 member jury, the identity of the jury will be confidential. The jury will be ed by the Writers' House and Diogene Publishing. The decision will be made according to the majority of votes. The jury retains the right to split the award in one or both nominations - in this case the monetary award will also be split.
