Georgian Book Market Research

The Writers’ House and the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association are organizing a large-scale study of the Georgian book market and readers’ habits.

The book market research will be conducted by the global research organization ACT. The main goal of the project is to conduct an in-depth study of the Georgian publishing industry, generally assess the book market and identify its main trends, study readers' habits and identify problems in the sector, which will make it possible and more effective to work on a strategic plan for further book market development.

The research will be completed in the spring of 2021, as a result of which we will have a complete statistical picture of all the components of the Georgian book sector.

The research will be conducted in several main directions and will survey publishers as well as readers and various organizations related to the publishing field and literature. In addition to the main research components, special attention will be paid to the impact of Georgia as an Honorary Guest Country project on the Georgian book market at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair; the research will also look at the large-scale changes caused by the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, which significantly affected the Georgian publishing industry and readers' habits.

It should be noted that the most recent book market research in Georgia was conducted by the Georgian National Book Center in 2016 and it is based on 2013-2015 data.
