The translation contest "Litera for Translators" was established in 2020 with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia and the initiative of the Writers' House and will be awarded in 4 nominations for the first time this year.
These nominations are:
- Best Young Translator (Prose, Poetry; up to the age 35);
- Best Prose Translation (novel, collection of short stories);
- Best translation of the humanitarian-scientific and popular-scientific literature (philology, psychology, sociology);
- David Tserediani Award for contribution to translation.
A total of 92 books were submitted in three nominations for the contest.
The Literary Award will review literary translations published as books in Georgian in 2019. A shortlist of contestants will be presented by the jury in early December, and the award ceremony will be held on December 20 at the Writers House. The winner of each nomination will receive a monetary prize (GEL 5,000) and a special prize.
The aim of the new award is to promote and stimulate translation activities.
