The Writers' House announces a contest of science fiction genre stories for high school students

Students of IX-XII grades of Georgian public and private schools are eligible to participate in the contest.

The topic is free, the story should be in science fiction genre and should not exceed 1000 words.

Why did we choose the science fiction genre?

The twenty-first century has brought many new challenges to humanity. As a result of technological progress, we have experienced ecological catastrophes, in parallel with space travel - pandemics , and terrorist attacks and wars as a counterweight to cultural development. 

Many things that belonged to the world of science fiction in the twentieth century became real in the early twenty-first century and developed rapidly. The virtual and real worlds are so intertwined that sometimes it is difficult to draw a line between them.

Today we find ourselves in a reality that seems to imitate literature and art. In isolation we find similarities between the current situation and various familiar science fiction stories. Precautions and civil responsibility force us to stay in "house arrest". Literature helps us enjoy our time and educate ourselves in the time of isolation. 

Terms of contest

The theme of the contest story may be the world tomorrow, the future of the planet and humanity - the choice is vast and free.

Contest stories must be sent electronically to the email address: contest@writershouse.ge  . The story must be typed in Microsoft word in Georgian Unicode (font - Sylfaen, size - 12) and must not exceed 5 pages (1000 words). In the letter, make sure to indicate the title of the story, contestant's name, surname, school, class, and contact phone number. (In case of incomplete contact information, the application will not be accepted).

The deadline for applications is June 5th.

The second stage of the contest will be published on the online blog https://whgeorgia.blogspot.com/

The works will be evaluated by a confidential jury that will reveal 3 winners.

1. First prize - 500 GEL voucher for Zoommer store
2. Second prize - 400 GEL voucher for Zoommer store
3. Third prize - 300 GEL voucher for Zoommer store
