Writers’ House held an event dedicated to International Human Rights Day, the event was held in two parts – an award ceremony of winners of poster contest on topic of human rights, and a panel-discussion on topic “human rights and contemporary Georgian art”.
The jury members, comprised of painters Davit Jincharadze, Nino Jishkariani and Teona Chanishvili, revealed the young Georgian artist winners of the poster contest.
The winners were:
I place – Nino Gavasheli
II place – Elisabed Pirtskhalava
III place – Mariam Davitashvili
The winners were awarded monetary prizes in the amount of Gel 700, 400 and 200. The ten works that reached the final of the contest were exhibited and the award ceremony.
The moderator of the discussion was Tamar Gurchiani, an associated professor at Ilia University, and human rights lawyer, the participants of the discussion were film critic Teo Khatiashvili, publicist Gia Khaduri, film director Data Tavadze and poet Paata Shamugia.
The participants talked about freedom of art and its role in human rights protection, about how various fields of Georgian art communicates the issues of human rights. The project is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
